Kick It Miami- Hiealeah, Miami

Context

The City of Hialeah displays a variety of health issues, including high obesity rates, and a lack of awareness regarding health and wellbeing. This lack of awareness is a result of minimal access to healthy foods, public play spaces and educational services.  The neighborhoods of Hialeah also face high crime rates due to staggering unemployment, which makes it difficult for parents to prioritize sports for their children.  This leaves the children of Hialeah with less opportunity to be active and empowered.

Programme outline

Kick It is Play for Change's brand new signature soccer programme launched in partnership with the Miami FC and the City of Hialeah. The 9 month long programme will run twice a week, with 45 boys and girls aged 7 to 12, training at the Community Wilde Center.  In addition to bi-weekly soccer training, the children will participate in workshops that focus on nutrition, health and wellbeing, and mentorship.

High quality soccer coaching will be delivered by local soccer academy: J10 Fútbol Academy, which was founded by internationally renowned street soccer star Jason Jayzinho Quezada.  The J10 coaches will emphasize the development of life skills, such as discipline, focus, and fair play.  The programme is supported by Italian soccer legend and Miami FC Head Coach Alessandro Nesta.
